Kourosh Kianpour moved to the Washington, DC area in 1994 to attend the University of Maryland Dental School. After receiving his dental degree in 1999, he completed a rigorous one-year postdoctoral residency in Advanced General Dentistry and a one-year externship in comprehensive patient care with an emphasis in crowns and bridges. He worked for four years as an associate dentist in Rockville, Germantown, and Wheaton, Maryland before starting his own practice.
Of Iranian descent and first educated at an international school in India and then a small liberal arts college in the Midwest, Dr. Kianpour has developed a global, cross-cultural perspective that he finds invaluable when interacting with his patients.
“I have a simple philosophy for my practice, treating all my patients as if I were the one in the chair,” he says. “I educate them, provide them with treatment options, and help them take an active role in making decisions about their health care. Although creating beautiful smiles and showing patients how to enhance their smiles is something I really enjoy, the philosophy behind my work is more important than simply fixing teeth.”
Dr. Kianpour has seen himself working in the health care profession since he was young. “Helping other people has always given me tremendous personal satisfaction,” he says. “My father was a pharmacist, and several others in my family were also health care professionals. Dentistry, an ideal blend of art and science, was most appealing to me.”
Dr. Kianpour lives with his wife in Leesburg, Va. They enjoy a number of outdoor activities, sports, cooking, and spending quality time with close friends and family. Dr. Kianpour is an avid soccer fan and continues to play whenever he can.
